Unknown Railway special

Any ideas on this one? Seen pretty much exclusively on railway property, this is a one piece column, no separate bracket, and no door at the base. Originally held some kind of tungsten lantern, I'm guessing an open enamel lantern. I've seen them in several places, but exclusively railway or former railway sites. I'm calling it the Railway Special until it's properly identified.
